Kent Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that provides highly personalized 24-hour a day services for adults who have a broad spectrum of developmental disabilities. We are seeking a full time bus driver to run local routes for our individuals from their homes, and our facility in Chestertown. Driving experience is preferred, knowledge of the area is a must!  This is a weekday position.    


Job Description:

Assistance with daily living skills and day to day needs. 

Safe and defensive driving. Operating a handicapped lift van. 

Being a positive mentor and life couch in a life of an adult with disabilities.

Making an impact in another person's life.



  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must pass a driving record and criminal background screening
  • Demonstrated skill in working with adults with developmental disabilities in residential setting
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a team
  • Good problem- solving skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Experience in conflict management
  • Position may require some regular weekend hours


Empathy: Some Individuals are frail, impaired, in pain, nonverbal or high behavior and need help. Being sympathetic to their needs and understanding is necessary.

Attention to Detail: Some Individuals have specific rules or schedules that must be minded, or specific dietary or physical rules that must be followed, and assistance with proper hygiene should be done daily.

Interpersonal Skills: Direct Support Professionals (DSP) work in a very personal way with their individuals. Some will be in pain or very sensitive to their fragility. They must be sensitive and compassionate with them.

Stamina: Direct Support Professionals (DSP) might need to lift individuals into the shower-chairs, cars and into bed, and need strength. Also, enough energy for those not so much hands on but are on the go.

Time Management: Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are schedule keepers. They have to be there to make sure individuals get up on time, make sure medication is taken on schedule and clients get to appointments on time.

Patience: some Individuals take more patience then others and we need people with the ability to have patience and to encourage the individual to take as much time as they need to finish a task.

Documentation: Documentation is very important in this field and the right candidate needs to be able to fill out the paperwork daily, per shift.
