Kent Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that provides highly personalized 24-hour a day services for adults who have a broad spectrum of developmental disabilities, such as autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual and/or physical disabilities, which may include complex medical issues. We operate 14) residential homes as well as in-house Day Habilitation and Supported Employment Programs.

We are looking for a skilled, service focused, Building Maintenance Technician who will play an important role in keeping our organization functioning at the highest quality of standards. Our ideal candidate will provide well managed, well maintained properties (administration building and thirteen (13) residential homes) with an emphasis on a positive and timely response to the concerns and needs of those occupying the properties. 

Specific tasks include but are not limed to, minor and preventive maintenance; troubleshooting; replacement and repairs in areas of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, painting, flooring, and other building repairs; preparing routine reports and estimates of time and materials needed for task completion; assisting and/or overseeing external contractors/vendors when professional repairs are necessary; conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment; and ensuring all safety equipment is in proper working order. 

Building Maintenance Technician applicants must:

  • Complete (2) weeks of consecutive orientation/on-the-job training within the first month of employment;
  • Attend training classes and seminars applicable to property/facility management and DDA regulations.Be capable of performing CPR/First Aid and follow MANDT standards (training provided) for crisis intervention.

Building Maintenance Technician Shift: Part-time (20-30 hours p/wk) with a base schedule of Monday through Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm and would be required to be on call after hours and on weekends and report to emergency calls. Must be able to work flexible and variable hours at variable locations. 

Building Maintenance Technician Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of one (1) year general experience in building trades, repair and replacement maintenance or handy work.
  • Must be able to pass 8th grade math and reading test.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal history record check, drug screen, and submit to a driving record.
  • Must be in good health and have the physical ability to lift without accommodation.
  • Have the ability to drive at night and during inclement weather.
  • Detailed oriented with ability to accurately complete all required daily documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to communicate with external contractors, staff, and individuals supported.
  • Ability to read technical/repair manuals and drawings or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.
  • Ability to work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain, humidity)
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Manual dexterity and physical stamina.
  • Must have the ability to use a computerized maintenance record system.
