The ideal candidate will assist these individuals in developing key life skills by providing supports based upon their Person-Centered Plan in our residential homes based in Kent County. Our DSPs carry out rewarding work, playing an integral and crucial role in the success of our organization by assisting with activities of daily living. We support our individuals by partnering with our clinical staff to implement the therapeutic and behavioral plans that are in place. Our DSPs also facilitate community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community or providing transportation to work and/or other activities.

Experience is preferred, but not required, that is, if you Bring the Right Attitude, We'll Train you for Success!  We provide PAID classroom training to include: DDA, CMT, CPR/First Aide Certification, and Crisis prevention; and on the job training and tools you need to be successful in this position. 

Applicants must:

  • Complete (3) weeks of consecutive orientation/on-the-job training within the first month of employment;
  • Successfully pass associated tests, and demonstrate skill in working with adults with developmental disabilities in a residential setting post hire;
  • Complete DSP 1&2 training or test for and pass DSP 1&2 certification within first year of employment;
  • Must be capable of performing CPR/First Aid and follow MANDT standards for crisis intervention;
  • Must have the ability to receive instruction and implement policies/procedures as trained.

  • Demonstrate Empathy (Some Individuals are very sensitive to their fragility, impaired, in pain, nonverbal or high behavior and need help. Being sympathetic to their needs and understanding is necessary.);
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills (DSPs work in a very personal way with their individuals.), and
  • Demonstrate patience (Some Individuals take more patience then others and we need people with the ability to have patience and to encourage the individual to take as much time as they need to finish a task.).


Shift/Schedule: 7 ON/7 OFF with EOW required. AWAKE overnight, and holiday shifts, as required. Full time and part time available. Hours of work and some shifts may vary based on the needs of the individuals supported. Must be able to work flexible and variable hours at variable locations.  

Location:  Chestertown and the surrounding areas.

Pay Rate:  Training Rate: $11.00/hr. Base Rate: $11.25/hr., DSP2 Rate: $11.50/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass 8th grade math and reading test.
  • Must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal history record check, drug screen, and submit to a driving record.
  • Must be in good health and have the physical ability to lift without accommodation.
  • Ability to drive at night and during inclement weather.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities or experience working in nursing home, childcare, mental health or summer camp setting preferred.
  • Associate Degree, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Technician (MedTech) or related certified professional preferred. 
  • Detailed oriented with ability to accurately complete all required daily documentation and reporting
  • Must be organized and easily adaptable to changing duties and work settings.
  • Must possesses excellent oral and writing communication skills, including an excellent command of English.
