We are looking for a skilled, service focused, Maintenance Technician who will play an important role in keeping our organization functioning at the highest quality of standards. The person in this role is responsible for the safe and working conditions of physical property assets, at our Kent Center Vocational Program/Administrative facility, Supported Employment facility, and residential sites in the Chestertown area, with the ultimate goal to provide well managed, well maintained properties with an emphasis on a positive and timely response to the concerns and needs of those occupying the properties.

Specific tasks include performing preventive maintenance and repairs on, buildings, furnishings, cabinetry & building equipment; collaborating on residential and office modifications, moving furniture/appliances etc. and working under minimal supervision following general instructions

Applicants must:

  • Complete (2) weeks of consecutive orientation/on-the-job training within the first month of employment.
  • Successfully pass associated tests and demonstrate skill in working with adults with developmental disabilities in a residential setting post hire.
  • Attends training classes and seminars applicable to property/facility management and DDA regulations.
  • Be capable of performing CPR/First Aid and follow MANDT standards (training provided) for crisis intervention.

Shift: Part-time (20-30 hours p/wk) with a base schedule of Monday through Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Call required after hours and on weekends and must be able to report to emergency calls. Must be able to work flexible and variable hours at variable locations. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year general experience in building trades, repair and replacement maintenance or handy work.
  • Ability to drive in inclement weather, at night, on highways, driving over bridges in traffic.
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license to include a clean driving record from the MVA with no more than 2 points.
  • Pass a Math and Reading Comprehension Assessment with a passing score of 70%.
  • Valid MD Home Improvement License (MHIC), preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with external contractors, staff, and individuals supported.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to read technical/repair manuals and drawings or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.
  • Ability to work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain, humidity).
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Manual dexterity and physical stamina.
  • Ability to use a computerized maintenance record system.
  • Detailed oriented with ability to accurately complete all required daily documentation and reporting
  • Must be in good health and have the physical ability to lift without accommodation.
  • Must pass a criminal history record check, drug screen, and submit to a driving record.

Location:  Chestertown and the surrounding areas.

Building Maintenance Technician Pay Rate:  Training Pay: $11.00/hr, Base Pay: $14.00/hr.
