The ideal candidate will assist these individuals in developing key life skills and engage them in the communities where our persons supported reside by providing supports based upon their Person-Centered Plan. A huge part of this job is facilitating community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community such as shopping, movies, Special Olympics, etc. and teaching life skills in their homes.

Experience is preferred, but not required, that is, if you Bring the Right Attitude, We'll Train you for Success!  We provide PAID classroom training to include: DDA, CMT, CPR/First Aide Certification, and Crisis prevention; and on the job training and tools you need to be successful in this position. 

To pass this training applicants must:

  • Complete (3) weeks of consecutive day orientation/on-the-job training within the first month of employment;
  • successfully pass associated tests, and demonstrate skill in working with adults with developmental disabilities post hire;
  • complete DSP 1&2 training or test for and pass DSP 1&2 certification within first year of employment;
  • be capable of performing CPR/First Aid and follow MANDT standards for crisis intervention;
  • have the ability to receive instruction and implement policies/procedures as trained;
  • have the ability to work independently and manage time effectively;
  • be detailed oriented with ability to accurately complete all required daily documentation and reporting.
  • be organized and easily adaptable to changing duties and work settings;
  • commit to having a high level of reliability by being punctual and committed to a shift schedule;

  • maintain a professional presence in image and interactions to include a clean, appropriate and presentable appearance;

  • demonstrate patience (Some Individuals take more patience then others and we need people with the ability to have patience and to encourage the individual to take as much time as they need to finish a task.).

Shift/Schedule:  This is a part-time position with flexible hours. Hours of work are mostly evenings and weekends.

Location:  Chestertown and the surrounding areas.

Pay Rate:  Training Rate: $11.00/hr. Base Rate: $12.75/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Legally eligible for employment in the United States.
  • Associate Degree, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Technician (MedTech) or related certified professional
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities or experience working in nursing home, childcare, mental health or summer camp setting, preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete all agency required training.
  • Must pass a DDA MTTP pre-requisite math and reading comprehension exam with a passing score of at least 70%.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including proficiencyin spoken and written English. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn new database systems.

  • Valid unrestricted driver's license to include a clean driving record from the MVA with no more than 2 points.
  • Valid automobile insurance policy.  
  • Ability to drive in inclement weather, at night, on highways, over bridges, and in traffic.
  • Ability to perform all the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Pass a criminal history record check, drug screen, and submit to a driving record, in accordance with Local, State, and Federal law/regulations.
